Guy Andrews is all about his layered compositions, and you can hear the thickness in the bass rumble through on the opener of OUR SPACES, "Higher Waters," which is offset halfway through by the swelling strings. "All Our Flaws" leans much more heavily on the melody, but introduces some more sustained chords in its break, while "Bereft Of Focus, Bereft Of Will" goes more jittery, before "Spirit Ritual" pauses to gather power. This is much more home-listening techno: a sonic moment that fills the space. "Without Names," for instance, has the cinematic sweep, while the guitar plucks of "In Autumn Arms" hints at post-rock, though recast into a dense thicket of sound. The title track itself is a decaying piece of ambient noise, echoed later in the builds and drops of "Perception." "Decipher" opens with a cleaner sound, but the layers soon engulf it, while the guitar returns on "Paganism." "Terminus" ends the album on a darker note, offering a tidy exit to the spaces Guy Andrews has opened up for us.
